In 1988, some of us here on earth had a bad year. I was one of those. As a songwriter, I was usually able to express the emotion and the passion of my experiences, whether good or bad. But that year, I needed to do something exceptional. So, near the end of the fall season, I had prayed earnestly for a special favor from God. I asked Him for a collection of Christmas songs. Its not easy to write even one quality Christmas song, especially with the classic carols in mind. I hoped to produce something that held a message and would sustain it for years to come, quite similar to the carols. At the same time, I valued the need to represent the contemporary styles. One tall order had formed, O Lord, please send me a medley of Christmas songs, some modern, some classical. Help me to present the true meaning of the birth of Jesus, the events surrounding it, and their nuances. The character of the songs will contain my heart and technique, Lord, but they must sound original. They require a loving touch from Your hand. And, oh, about ten songs would be great, Lord..
